ZEN AND BEAUTY
Seven days contemplating beauty
from Monday July 16th to Sunday July 22nd
in Oberdürenbach (Germany) –
International workshop led in English
by Frank De Waele Roshi
Based in our charming guesthouse in Oberdürenbach,
a wonderful location in the beautiful Eifel region,
we will follow a relaxed, yet rich program.
We meditate and perform liturgy,
We walk silently in nature, and look at the stars at night.
We do contemplative drawing
and sing together.
We watch a beautiful movie and
listen to music!
We share share our thoughts and feelings about a favorite poem
or about a beautiful object that you particularly love
and brought from home.
Also, we will experience the beauty within …
Frank De Waele Roshi will be leading and facilitating this workshop on ‘Zen and beauty’.
Roshi has a background in the Fine Arts and thaught Painting at the Academy of Leuven. He worked in several museums (Ghent, Brussels, Venice) and as an art guide in Paris. He has designed and led multi-day art trips (Venice, Paris, Amsterdam, Assisi, Chartres, Cologne) and art contemplation workshops (Ghent, Giverny, the Provence, Lisbon, London). In the sangha, Frank Roshi regurlarly organizes contemplative art visits.

Haus Königssee was the former ‘Dorfgastätte’ (1893). The house was renovated in the early nineties in an ecological way into a charming and modern retreat house. It is located on the outskirts of the rural village of Oberdürenbach in the volcanic hills of the Eifel nature reserve.
We will be accommodated in nice, comfortable double or triple rooms, each with its own bathroom.
There is room for up to 25 people.
In our tradition, all meals are vegetarian, but not vegan. If requested we can provide lactose-free and gluten-free food. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate other dietary requirements.
(everything included except the museum ticket in Bonn and the travel expenses to Bonn and Wachendorf)

- a deepened silence and presence
- a sustained awareness of my own actions and behaviour
- a kind awareness and respect of others, of the context and the environment
- a willingness to do manual work as meditation
- a willingness to abstain from distraction, control and acting out
- a willingness to allow joy, trust, openness, strength and devotion
“Following the rules lets you find yourself. The rules are not something to restrict you, but something to support your practice.”
Shunryu Suzuki Roshi
